My name is Jake Biggs. My journey to becoming a clinical nutritionist is a unique one and one that has been described as inspirational to all. I developed severe anorexia nervosa at 15 years of age where over the course of 10 years, I required 20 hospital admissions and I nearly died from bradycardia caused by starvation. At one time after not having any food for 7 days, I had a heart rate of 25 beats per minute (healthy range being 60-100 beats per minute). The doctors feared I wouldn't wake up the next day; fortunately I did. Throughout this time in my life, I encountered first hand what happens to one's physiology and psychology where one's mind and body is compromised. But specifically, what happens when the human body is deprived of high quality nutrition.
I then developed a Grade 3 Frontal Lobe Astrocytoma brain tumour in 2012; I thought I had been through enough already! This required urgent brain surgery and subsequent 12 week Radiation therapy where I lost a large portion of my hair and had extremely low energy, poor mental clarity and extreme fatigue. I have now successully fully recovered from both conditions! Quite the journey!
I wanted to make it my career goal to educate myself how food can become medicine for the human body. Despite suffering from multiple seizures, I soldiered on and completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition & Dietitic Medicine) degree in September, 2021 graduating with High Distinction honours as a clinical nutritionist in Sydney, Australia.
It is now my life mission to assists individuals help restore, rebalance and reinvigorate their health by using evidence based medicine principles for long term longevity.
